I'm 60 years old and now find myself homeless. My children are grown and gone. I'm on disability due to failed back surgery. Back pain is debilitating. i NEVER THOUGHT IT WOULD BE THIS DIFFICULT TO find a government apartment to live in untill I really needed one. I searched 4 counties with no luck. There are no one bedroom apartments avaiable for someone like me. If I had childern I could get something, but only me, well seems next to impossible. I applied for a rent voucher but I have been told it could take from 2 to 5 years to get that help.

I can't be the only senior adult on disability in need of housing. I'm wondering why there are not enought apartments for people in my situation. There seems to be 2 bedroom units that are unrented but I don't quilify for them,,it's only me you see.

Why does it take so long for aproval of rent vouchers?

PS. I have been sleeping in the back of an old horse trailer, using an electric heater to try to stay warm..old people on disability who are also homeless seem to have no value and are treated badly. It's been 5 months. I'm currently house sitting and it has been so wonderful to sleep in a real bed and have a bathroom to shower. Never take these things for granted ..anyone could find themselves in this situation ..and it's not fun at any age, but if you 60 plus, it's even harder..
